Panthers Get Win #6 against Rockland

Whitman-Hanson hosted the Rockland Bulldogs tonight and pulled out a 3-1 win. The game scores were 25-6, 25-14, 15-25 and 27-25. Whitman-Hanson started out fast against the Bulldogs getting out to an early 9-2 lead on solid play from Erin Doherty who served seven straight points. Rockland had a hard time getting their offense going and found themselves making too many mistakes to get even with the Panthers. In the second set Rockland played better and gave the Panthers a bit of a challenge getting out to an early lead. Whitman-Hanson rallied and with a solid serving streak by senior, Sarah Mossman, they were able to pull out a win in the second set. Mossman served 7 straight points which allowed the Panthers to push away from Rockland. In the third set Whitman-Hanson faltered mightily and played really sloppy volleyball allowing Rockland to gain confidence. With their confidence built Rockland began hitting well and driving the game while the Panthers found themselves back on their heels trying to play catch up. Despite some good play from the Panthers, Rockland was able to close out the set 15-25. In the fourth set Whitman-Hanson struggled to make the right plays and found themselves down early to Rockland. The Panthers made several errors on easy, playable balls that should have been easily turned into spikes against the Rockland defense. The fourth set was a great set with lots of back and forth action. Both teams had opportunities to close out the match but Whitman-Hanson was able to make the right plays at the right times to pull out the win. Playing well for Whitman-Hanson tonight were Erin Doherty with 16 assists, 2 kills and 4 aces; Erin Clifford had 10 kills and 12 successful serve receives; and Alyssa Andrews with 19 serve receives and 10 digs. Whitman-Hanson moves to 6-13 on the season which is a 1 win improvement over their win total from last season. The Panthers go for win number 7 on against Bridgewater-Raynham on Friday night, which is also Senior Night.
